TORONTO – More than 60 people have been arrested and hundreds of charges have been laid in a series of child sex abuse investigations in Ontario, Canadian police said Wednesday.

Provincial police Det. Tim Brown said the investigation was conducted over a 10-day period in February and resulted in the arrest of dozens of suspects accused of producing, possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material.

“We responded to complaints from various electronic service providers, services like all social media platforms,” Brown said. “The bulk of this project was that.”

Brown said one case involved luring and engaging an undercover agent online.

According to investigators, 64 people were charged with a total of 348 crimes and more than 600 devices were confiscated. The suspects are between 16 and 67 years old.

Police believe one of the defendants was in possession of 21 terabytes of data containing child sexual abuse material.

They say 34 victims have been identified and 30 children protected.
