Police are investigating after a 13-year-old was killed and another teenager was hospitalized in a shooting in Orange County.

A suspect, 27-year-old Raymond Mario Jimenez, was arrested in connection with the fatal incident, Santa Ana police announced Wednesday.

The shooting occurred on June 5 near 900 West Bishop Street in Santa Ana at around 12:17 p.m.

Arriving officers found two victims at the scene – a 13-year-old boy lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the upper body and a 16-year-old boy in a nearby house, also with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

A third victim, a 13-year-old boy, was found near the scene but was unharmed, police said. The injured teens were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The motive for the shooting is unknown, but Jimenez fled the scene before police arrived.

On June 7, two days after the shooting, the 13-year-old boy died of his injuries in the hospital. The surviving 16-year-old victim remains in critical but stable condition.

That same day, detectives located and arrested Jimenez and charged him with multiple counts, including murder, attempted murder, and shooting in an occupied structure.

An arraignment is scheduled for July 10 in Orange County Superior Court. Jimenez remains in custody and cannot be released on bail.

The motive for the shooting and the relationship between the suspect and the victims remain unclear.
