Colombia suspends coal sales to Israel

BOGATA — Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on Saturday that his country would halt coal exports to Israel in response to his country’s deadly war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Colombia is Israel’s main coal supplier, and according to the Israeli embassy in Bogotá, the country will have exports worth around $450 million in 2023. The embassy remains operational despite the severance of diplomatic relations between Petro and the government in May.
