A 29-year-old man from Victoria, Yanyu Muwas extradited and arrested by New South Wales Police after being accused of kidnapping, sexually assaulting and blackmailing a 36-year-old woman in April. New South Wales Police allege the man threatened to release the images taken during the alleged assault unless she paid him $300,000.

On the night of April 20, police were called to a street in Epping after receiving reports that a woman had been dragged into a Toyota Camry by several men and then driven away with her and the group inside.

At 1pm on April 21, the 36-year-old woman was found by detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Unit in western Sydney and taken to hospital.

She reportedly told police at the scene that she had been drugged and then sexually assaulted.

During a raid on a house in Eastwood the next day, the task force found several items discarded in garbage bins that they believed were linked to the alleged crimes.

The items included women’s clothing, various bindings and unspecified drugs. All were seized for forensic testing.

The case was pursued for weeks and Yanyu Mu was arrested in Oakleigh East on Thursday morning with the assistance of Victoria Police. He was then extradited to NSW and taken to Mascot Police Station on Friday.

“He is charged with causing bodily harm in company with intent to extort ransom, knowingly directing the activities of a criminal group, committing sexual abuse in company and depriving people of their liberty, intentionally recording intimate images without their consent, threatening to distribute intimate images without their consent and using intoxicating substances to commit an indictable offence,” New South Wales Police said in a statement.

Police allege he kidnapped the woman, drugged her, photographed her during the sexual assault and threatened to publish the images of the act if she did not pay him $300,000.

Yanyu Mu was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court today.
