MBC’s hit travel show “Adventure by Accident” has been renewed for a new season and will return with season 4 and a spin-off, the broadcaster announced on Monday.

“A spin-off program for ‘Adventure by Accident’ and its fourth season will be developed, produced and broadcast later,” MBC said in a press release.

Since its debut in December 2022, the reality show has followed the adventures of webtoon creator Kian84 and his companions on their spontaneous travels through various countries. In the first season, Kian84 went on a 10-day excursion through Peru and Bolivia accompanied by his actor friend Lee Si-eon and travel YouTuber Pani Bottle.

In the second season, Kian84 and Pani Bottle went on a journey through India with fellow cast member and TV star Dex. In the final season, which aired earlier this year, all four cast members came together to explore Madagascar.

The show’s producer, Kim Ji-woo, gave an insight into the upcoming shows.

“The spin-off program will add a dash of ‘Kian84’s new challenge’ to his travels with friends,” he said of the channel.

“And with ‘Adventure by Accident 4’ we are doing our best and preparing to once again reach the fans who have loved our series. We ask for your continued interest and anticipation.”

Since its premiere, the show quickly gained popularity due to the down-to-earth and authentic portrayal of the cast’s journeys exploring unknown corners of the world and immersing themselves in the lives of locals. Their adventures included visits to local colleges and gyms, giving viewers an authentic insight into the culture and daily life of the places they visited.

Last year, the show was notably successful at the channel’s year-end entertainment awards, winning a total of seven trophies, including that for Variety Show of the Year. In addition, Kian84 received the highest honor, the Grand Prize, at the ceremony, further cementing the show’s recognition and acclaim within the industry.

This year, the series continued its winning streak by adding two more prestigious awards to its collection. It was honored with the Producer of the Year award at the annual Korean Producers and Directors Association (KPDA) awards ceremony and the Best TV Entertainment Program award at the 60th Baeksang Arts Awards.

While accepting the award at the KPDA ceremony, the producer hinted at a return of the series and revealed that the production team is aiming for the series to return in the second half of this year.

“There will be things that change and others that will stay the same, but I believe that at the core of ‘Adventure by Accident’ is about being open-minded and having the courage to take on challenges. Our goal is to approach our work with the same adventurous spirit and ensure that the heart of the series stays true to its roots,” said the producer.

The broadcaster has announced that updates and news about upcoming shows will be communicated via its official YouTube channel “Adventure by Accident Base Camp”.
