On Saturday, Indiana Fever defender Caitlin Clark was involved in an on-court incident where she was thrown to the ground quite violently by Chicago Sky defender Chennedy Carter. After the game was over, Clark said the foul was not a basketball play, while Carter refused to answer questions about the incident.

This led to many asking why Carter refused to answer questions, leading to claims that players around the league are not fans of Clark. This has become a major topic of conversation recently, as the defender has faced all sorts of criticism since her debut. Many believed this was the end of things until the teams next met, but Carter went even further.

She has turned to threads and completely surpassed Clark’s abilities.

“What else does she bring to the table besides three-point shooting, man?”

These comments from Carter are completely disrespectful to Clark’s game and further proof that the WNBA’s players are not happy with the coverage they have received. Others have pushed back on this portrayal, but moments like this paint a different picture. Since Clark was drafted by the Fever, the WNBA has seen a massive surge in popularity and the league has provided private charter planes to teams.

Carter also defended Sky forward Angel Reese, who has had a minor rivalry with Clark since their college days. Reese and Clark faced off in the NCAA Tournament two straight seasons, with Reese’s LSU Tigers defeating Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2023 National Championship game. Clark was able to get revenge on Reese with the Hawkeyes defeating LSU in the Elite Eight of the last NCAA Tournament.

The defining moment that sparked the rivalry was when Reese hit Clark with the “You can’t see me” hand gesture near the end of the title game. This sparked all sorts of controversy between the two players and numerous stories emerged about it.

Clark and the Fever had the last laugh during the game as Indiana won by one point. However, with these additional comments from Carter, that situation isn’t going to change anytime soon. The WNBA has probably never seen this kind of rivalry and drama, so it’s nice to see the league growing. However, Carter’s comments were disrespectful and actions speak louder than words, especially when it comes to the treatment of Clark.
