A 15-year-old’s night drive ends with a chase and accident at Rosepine Pharmacy

ROSEPINE, Louisiana (KPLC) – An early morning police chase ended with a 15-year-old crashing his car into the Rosepine Family Pharmacy, DeRidder police said.

DeRidder police said the chase began around 3:40 a.m. early on the morning of May 31, when a patrol unit spotted a 2024 Nissan Rouge without taillights. The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle, which sped away after the officer turned on its hazard lights. The chase then continued north on U.S. Highway 171 and into the town of Rospine.

Officers said the vehicle crashed into the Rosepine Family Pharmacy while attempting to turn onto a municipal road.

Nobody was injured in the accident, but the pharmacy suffered considerable damage.

Officers later learned that the driver was a 15-year-old boy from Rosepine who stole a family member’s brand new car and a handgun without the family member’s knowledge or permission. There were also two other minors in the vehicle.

All three occupants of the vehicle have since been charged with curfew violations, and the driver has been charged with numerous traffic violations, fleeing an officer, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of a handgun as a minor.

Rosepine Family Pharmacy explains that due to the damage caused by the incident, only their drive-thru counter will be operational for the time being.
