Woman raped in Hamilton parking lot, police search for white van in connection with crime

Police are searching for a white van in connection with the rape of a woman in a parking lot in Hamilton.

The incident is believed to have occurred shortly after 3am on Saturday 25 May in the Keith Street car park.

Investigations so far have revealed that a white van was parked in the area at the time, which police believe is connected to the attack.

Police said they had increased the number of high-profile patrols in the area while a dedicated team of officers carried out the investigation.

Detective Inspector Gary Smillie said: “This incident occurred shortly after a nearby nightclub closed, so we know there were a lot of people and taxis in the area.

“We would like to speak to anyone who was in the Keith Street area on Saturday night, as well as any taxi drivers or other motorists who may have dashcam footage.

“We recognise that this is an extremely concerning incident and are conducting increased, high-visibility patrols in the area.

“Any information could be crucial to our investigation, so please call police on 101citing incident 0807 of 28 May 2024. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.”
