Teenager arrested in connection with gang shooting in Orange County

ANAHEIM – A 16-year-old boy suspected of gang-related shooting death of a 38-year-old man in Anaheim has been taken into custody, police announced Tuesday.

According to Anaheim Police Sergeant Jon McClintock, officers responded to the 900 block of South Anaheim Boulevard, near Vermont Avenue and Walnut Grove Park, around 7 p.m. Friday for a report of shots fired. Anaheim resident Jesse Barragan was found unconscious in the parking lot of a liquor store, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Barragan was later pronounced dead at the scene.

In further investigation, homicide and gang investigators worked together over Memorial Day weekend to identify the 16-year-old boy responsible for the shooting.

Due to the suspect’s age, no further identifying information would be provided.

The suspect was arrested without incident in Garden Grove on Sunday and booked into the Orange County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of murder.

“Investigators believe the shooting is gang-related and are not releasing any further details at this time as the investigation is ongoing,” McClintock said in a statement.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Anaheim Police at 714-321-3669. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
