Severe storms are possible from Tuesday to early Thursday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Several showers and strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday into early Thursday morning.

TONIGHT:

This afternoon, scattered showers will continue under mostly cloudy skies. As the air continues to warm, some of these showers will become thunderstorms. Where storms can form, severe weather is possible. Devastating wind gusts, quarter-sized hail, torrential rain and isolated tornadoes are the threat. Any storms today should remain isolated.

Tonight, beginning at 9 p.m., a more organized group of strong to severe storms should move from the northwest into our southwestern Kentucky counties. The storms were expected to reach Clarksville at 10:30 p.m. Around midnight we continue to Nashville. From there, the storms will move southeast, eventually reaching the TN/AL line by sunrise Wednesday. Like all storms that can form today, all types of severe weather are possible.

TOMORROW AND TOMORROW EVENING:

A few showers and possibly strong to severe storms will develop tomorrow through midday, moving north again. The first thunderstorm window for severe weather is Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

After a brief respite, a more organized, stronger group of strong to severe storms will reenter the area from the northwest on Wednesday evening. This storm episode represents the highest probability of severe weather during this multi-day period. Storms could reach southwest Kentucky as early as early evening. People in the Nashville area should be prepared for severe storms around 9 p.m. Several waves of storms are likely to develop during the night as everything slides to the southeast. A few strong storms could continue over extreme southeastern Middle Tennessee shortly after sunrise Thursday.

THURSDAY FRIDAY:

Strong storms will move in from southeast Middle Tennessee early Thursday. It will gradually become drier as the afternoon progresses.

Friday could bring a brief shower or shower. Otherwise it will be cloudy, cooler and drier. Chance of rain: 20%.

THIS WEEKEND AND BEYOND:

This weekend will be pleasant overall, with less heat and humidity than currently.

There will be another brief shower or two on Saturday, but most of the day looks pleasant. Chance of rain: 20%.

Sunday, Mother’s Day, looks beautiful. High 76.
