Wegmans hosts allergy-friendly food drive with Buffalo Bills

OUT OF NEW YORK STATE (WETM) — Wegmans is partnering with the Buffalo Bills to host a food drive for food insecure families with allergies and dietary restrictions.

Customers at Wegmans locations in Southern, Central New York and Western New York can purchase select allergen-free and special diet foods through May 18 for pickup of food intended to raise awareness of food allergies. According to the Buffalo Bills, food drives are one of the best ways to raise awareness about food allergies, which are incurable.

The CDC says 1 in 13 children suffer from food allergies, and two of the children of Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott and his wife, Jamie, are among them. The McDermotts know how difficult it can be to deal with food allergies and say they want to raise awareness and help families in need provide safe food for their families.

“We are very grateful to Wegmans and this partnership,” said Jamie McDermott. “This means a lot to us because we know we are not the only family affected by food allergies, and if we can help just one family by making it easier for them to access safe food for their family, it will be worth it. penalty. .”

All items purchased for this food drive will be donated to food banks located throughout the region. The Food Bank of Downstate, FeedMore WNY, Foodlink and the Food Bank of Central New York are among the organizations that will benefit from this initiative.
