New York special education teacher accused of sexually abusing schizophrenic teen: lawsuit | The Post Millennial

A married special education teacher in New York is accused of sexually abusing a schizophrenic teenager after a lawsuit revealed she was caught on video during the incident. The suit, filed by the boy’s mother, also accuses the school of negligence in relation to the incident.

Sandy Carazas-Pinez, 34, is accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old student at Biondi High School. According to the indictment, classroom cameras showed the teacher sexually abusing the boy, but no one at the school monitored the video.

After the student admitted to his mother that he had had sex with the teacher on multiple occasions, the principal examined classroom video and found the teacher making out with the boy and asking him to “rub her crotch,” the lawsuit says.

Carazas-Pinez was charged in federal court in Manhattan last July with luring the teenager into a sexual relationship, the New York Post reported, and with persuading him to join her on a livestreamed video call containing adult content.

The lawsuit states that Carazas-Pinez sent the teen text messages saying, “I love that you held and hugged me at school” and “I call you crazy if you try to finger me in class.”

The lawsuit also accuses the school of failing to monitor the teacher’s behavior. It also states that the school regularly let the boy leave school grounds for several hours at a time using a “day pass” that did not require parental permission. While using that pass, the teenager repeatedly had sex with the teacher in her car.

When the teenager tried to break off the relationship with Carazas-Pinez, the teacher allegedly threatened to fail him in class or even kill herself, which reportedly left the boy traumatized.

“Had the school followed even its most basic safety protocols, it could have prevented the horrific, repeated and ongoing abuse that occurred in its own home,” said Lesley Brovner, an attorney at the law firm that filed the lawsuit.
