A teacher taking her students on an end-of-year school field trip was attacked in Island Park on Thursday, a city official confirmed.

Eyewitnesses feared that the attacker, who was later determined to be a minor, had tried to push the teacher off a bridge, witnesses said.

Another woman in the park “saved a teacher leading a field trip with children from a man who nearly threw her off a bridge in Island Park,” a source said.

City police did not provide any information about the brawl and did not respond to requests for comment late Friday, but city spokesman Darcy Orlik confirmed it occurred and declined to provide details.

She said the attacker was a minor who had been handed over to his parents and that a report had been sent to the district attorney’s office.

“That is the information we have at the moment,” she said.
