Passenger killed after car crashes into canal on I-75 in Broward – NBC 6 South Florida

One person was killed after a car crashed into a canal on Alligator Alley in Broward County Tuesday morning, officials said.

The crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. on northbound Interstate 75 near Mile Marker 45 and involved an Infiniti Q50 sedan, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

It appears the car’s tire burst, causing the 20-year-old man driving the car to lose control, FHP officials said.

The car went onto the grassy shoulder, rolled over several times and collided with a tree before ending up in the water.

Three people were in the vehicle and two of them were able to get out on their own, Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Department officials told NBC6.

The third person had to be rescued by divers and was flown to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition, officials said.

The video showed an air rescue helicopter landing on the highway to transport the person to the hospital.

FHP officials said the person, a 19-year-old man who was the passenger, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver and a 20-year-old man who was a rear passenger survived. The identities of those who were in the vehicle were not released.

The crash is still under investigation.
