Student killed in accident

A 20-year-old nursing student who was on a weekend trip with his friends was killed after he lost control of his scooter on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Alby Joseph, completed BSc in Nursing from Sapthagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Hesaraghatta Road. He was on his way to Devarayanadurga with his two friends who were following him on another bike.

The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. when Joseph was riding his scooter at high speed, missed a bump and crashed after losing control. The impact caused him to fall onto the street and died on the spot from his internal injuries. According to police, he was wearing a helmet and no traces of alcohol were found in the autopsy report. Joseph is from Kerala and stayed in a hostel while his father worked in Dubai.

The road hump was placed on the highway near a minor road to slow down the speed of vehicles entering the highway. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under Section 279 (rash and negligent driving) and Section 304A (death due to rash and negligent driving).
