An opportunity presents itself: For rent – The Tabernacle

A number of very unique commercial rental packages have recently appeared on the market. One of the more interesting rentals is The Tabernacle – a circa 1922 church that was transformed into a 2,800 square foot bar and entertainment/event venue in 2018.

Now vacant, The Tabernacle space is one of the most unusual and inspiring places in the area. The interior was beautifully painted by Jeremy Twiss, who was an employee at Sweet_ness 7 Café (located next door on the corner of Grant and Lafayette) back when the cavernous space was built.

At the height of its success, The Tabernacle had a full liquor license, a public meeting permit, a dance hall permit and various bakery licenses, according to the listing. There was great energy/synergy between Sweet_ness 7 and The Tabernacle, thanks to the vision of owner Prish Moran.

Today, Healing Grounds Café occupies the former Sweet_ness 7, while 211 Lafayette Street is in the middle of a “search” for its next tenant.

The main assets of the Tabernacle are:

  • 200 foot high ceilings
  • A step
  • Two raised balcony platforms for seating – one of the balconies has a second bar
  • One bathroom, with room for another
  • A small preparation kitchen area
  • It is possible to install an ansul/hood system in the kitchen
  • Equipment, content and audio system can be purchased or rented
