How a Black Girl’s Rape Went Viral

Jada, a 16-year-old junior from Houston, claims she was drugged and raped at a high school party after accepting a drink from a friend of a friend.

But as disturbing as these allegations are, the consequences are almost worse: photos and videos of the attack circulated on social media. Jada’s accused rapist repeatedly mocked her on Twitter. And somewhere in the whole soulless spectacle, a meme was born: It’s called #jadapose – and it involves lying on the floor on your stomach and half-clothed.

Per Topsy, a Twitter analytics tool, The hashtag has been used 3,000 times since its launch Tuesday night, apparently in response to the local 11 p.m. newscast in which Jada went public.
