Firefighters battle fire south of Running Springs

Over the weekend, firefighters battled the Blue Fire that broke out south of Running Springs in the San Bernardino Mountains.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the vegetation fire was reported around 2:10 p.m. Sunday southeast of Highway 330 and near City Creek Road and Aqueduct Trail.

Firefighters battled the half-acre blaze on the ground while aerial units dropped water to help fight the fire. Additional aircraft were also requested, according to Ben Brissey, Big Bear’s chief meteorologist.

By 3:16 p.m., the fire was 2 to 3 acres in size, with moderate spread and a potential of 25 acres. An air unit began dropping fire retardant, authorities said.
