A pedestrian was killed near Eanchakkal late on Saturday when he was hit by a motorcycle and then run over by an ambulance.

The deceased was identified as M. Ananthu, 23, of Asan Nagar, near Kallummoodu.

The incident occurred around 10.30 pm along the National Highway 66 bypass road when Ananthu, who works in a private helmet shop in Nanthencode, was returning home from work.

According to Fort police, the youth got down from a bus at Eanchakkal and was crossing the bypass road. He was first hit by a motorcycle coming from Kallummoodu. A few seconds later, the ambulance carrying a patient from a private hospital in Ambalathara to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital ran over the injured pedestrian.

Though Ananthu was taken to the medical college in the same ambulance, his life could not be saved. The police have arrested the drivers of both the vehicles.
