Woman killed, children among 3 injured in crash near Davenport, sheriff’s office says

POLK COUNTY, Florida. – A Jacksonville woman was killed and her two children and three other people were injured in a car crash near Davenport Friday night, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred around 7:54 p.m. on the North Ridge Trail, the sheriff’s office said on social media.

According to the post, the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2024 Nissan sedan left the road while approaching a 90-degree turn at a high rate of speed, went over a guardrail, drove through a fence and finally struck a tree. One of the vehicle’s occupants – Alicia Carmona, 39, of Jacksonville – was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, the post said.

Carmona’s two children — a 15-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy — were injured in the crash and taken to a hospital, according to the sheriff’s office. Both were in stable condition Saturday morning.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Tiffany Alexander West, 36, of Orlando, who was hospitalized with facial fractures, according to the sheriff’s office. A blood sample from West was taken for testing and “charges are expected” after a traffic investigator found she allegedly showed signs of impairment, the post said.

The North Ridge Trail was closed for about five hours after the accident, the sheriff’s office said.
