Homeless woman shot dead in Chula Vista, police say

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) – Authorities are investigating after a 23-year-old woman was shot near C Street in Chula Vista Thursday night.

Officers with the Chula Vista Police Department were called to the 200 block of C Street shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, for reports of a shooting.


Upon arrival, officers found a woman with a gunshot wound bleeding profusely just off the road on C Street, west of the Woodland Hills Apartments. Officers began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived and took over the wound. However, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police describe her as a 23-year-old woman who is believed to be homeless and lives in Chula Vista.

During the course of the investigation, Chula Vista police learned that the shooting may have occurred in the field behind the Woodland Hills Apartments north of C Street, an area where police say homeless individuals have been known to congregate.

Police report that the victim was with a man when they arrived at the scene. However, police believe he is not the suspect and do not have any information on a possible suspect at this time. They stressed, however, that there is no active threat to the public.
