Internet outage causes closures, delays and flight cancellations in Houston

A major internet outage has grounded all flights on several major airlines.

Despite local television reports, there were no ground jams at Bush or Hobby airports. However, with United and Delta affected, delays are expected.

In fact, between the two airports there have been hundreds of delays and cancellations so far today.

This is the same Microsoft issue that halted all Frontier Airlines flights for hours on Thursday. Microsoft says it has fixed the issue on its end.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said the issue appears to be related to an update, not a security problem.

The breakdown will also have other local consequences:

• Harris Health has canceled elective procedures today. Outpatient clinics have resumed.
• Port Houston’s Barbours Cut and Bayport container terminals have reopened.
• Texas DPS driver license offices are closed.
