Brixton musician raped 13-year-old girl on her birthday and told her to “be quiet”

A musician who raped a 13-year-old girl on her birthday has been sentenced to prison. Everton Grossett was convicted after a jury at Inner London Crown Court found multiple sexual assaults had been proven.

The 38-year-old, of Mayall Road, Brixton, was convicted of five separate counts of rape, sexual assault and sexual battery following a trial in July this year. Court documents show the sick sex offender was charged with 13 counts of child sexual assault relating to the same victim at his first appearance at Croydon Magistrates’ Court in June last year.

Public records show that Grossett is registered as a director at three music companies, with his occupation listed as producer and sound engineer. One of those companies, D3G3OFFICIALS, shares the same name as TikTok, YouTube and Instagram accounts where Grossett appears in short music clips, and is listed as “management” in a British drill video featuring three rappers.

The trial heard how Grossett satisfied his sexual desires by sexually abusing the young victim, telling her to “be quiet” during the abuse, and then bribing her with money for candy. After the rape, the victim was bleeding and struggled to explain to her mother, but it was not until she confided in her sister that his heinous crimes came to light.

In her statement, the victim recalled being “happy and confident” before the abuse began on an “unforgivable, life-changing night at the hands of Everton Grossett.” The survivor said: “It was a very long journey to find the strength and courage to report it. It took me a long time to tell anyone. I carried it with me, and only me.”

She also thanked her sister for giving her “the strength” to talk about it. “Sometimes I dream about the past events and wake up angry. Then I spend the whole day trying to hide it from others,” she continued, adding, “I hope you (Grossett) can never hurt anyone again.”

Defence counsel Farrelly acknowledged that there was a “pattern of behaviour” and an element of violence as a result of the bleeding, but argued that the offences had to be viewed in the context of Grossett’s “difficult” home life. The lawyer also pointed to Grossett’s “good character” since the horrific abuse.

The court also heard that Grossett has children of his own, aged 12 and 17, but has not been allowed to see them since his conviction. The mother of those children provided a positive character reference and described him as an “extraordinary father”. Arguing that Grossett was “quite extraordinary”, Ms Farrelly urged the judge to grant him a “quite significant” sentence reduction.

Judge David Richards sentenced him to six years and eight months in prison and told the offender: “It is clear to me that you could not control your appetite or compulsion to abuse (the victim).”

Grossett must serve half of a two-year sentence for multiple counts of sexual assault, then two-thirds of a four-year and eight-month sentence for rape. He must also serve a 12-month sentence for another count of sexual assault.
