Second motorcyclist arrested after shooting at police

Salem police arrested a second motorcyclist on Wednesday on suspicion of firing a gun into the air last week in front of police investigating a stolen motorcycle case.

Brian Lee English, 28, of Salem, was arraigned Thursday in Marion County District Court on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and illegal possession of a weapon.

On July 11, police officers investigated the theft of motorcycles at a warehouse in the 1800 block of Southeast 22nd Street.

Detectives found a stolen motorcycle and arrested two adults and a teenager.

Two adults and a teenager attempted to flee in a vehicle but were arrested, police said.

While the police were investigating, two motorcyclists drove near the camp, according to the police report. One of the men fired a gun into the air in front of the officers.

The two motorcyclists fled. After a chase, police arrested 25-year-old Zayn Free Bristow of Mill City. A second motorcyclist, whom police later identified as an Englishman, fled.

English was found outside a residence in the 1500 block of Northeast B Street on Wednesday. After attempting to flee, he was soon caught and arrested.

A backpack was confiscated near English’s hiding place from police and officers found a pistol inside, a police statement said.

English has been in the Marion County Jail since Thursday afternoon in lieu of $30,000 bail.
