Grateful Dead and Bonnie Raitt among the honorees at the 47th Kennedy Center Honors – 100.7 FM – KSLX – Classic Rock

Members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Gratefully dead And Bonnie Raitt are among the artists who will be honored for their artistic lifetime achievements at the 47th Kennedy Center Honors.

Other award winners this year include director Francis Ford Coppola and jazz musicians Arturo Sandoval, and the iconic venue The Apollo in Harlem, which will receive a special award as an American institution.

“Our honorees this year have all played an invaluable, groundbreaking role in the development of American culture – not only through artistic achievement but also through their decades-long dedication to pushing creative boundaries,” said the Kennedy Center President. Deborah F. Rutter shares.

“It goes without saying that the Kennedy Center Honors are the highest honor for artistic achievement,” said the members of Dead. Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzman, Phil Lesh And Bobby Weir said in a statement. “The Grateful Dead has always been about community, creativity and exploration of music and presentation… it must also be said that our music belongs to our fans, the Dead Heads, as much as it does to us. So this honor belongs to them as much as it does to us.”

Raitt said she was “deeply honored and thrilled to have been selected” as one of this year’s honorees, noting, “There is no higher appreciation and no more beautiful celebration and I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who selected me for this honor.”

She added: “I am looking forward to the upcoming ceremony and celebrations. I know they will be some of the highlights of my life.”

The Kennedy Center Honors will be presented on December 8, ahead of a CBS broadcast of the event on December 23.
