Mountain View man arrested for leading police on chase across Bay Bridge: Police

(KRON) — A Mountain View man was arrested early Wednesday morning after leading officers on a chase from San Mateo to San Francisco and eventually across the Bay Bridge, San Mateo police said. Jonathan Connelly, 33, allegedly used a stolen car and disregarded red lights and stop signs.

An automatic license plate reader near East Poplar Avenue and North Amphlett Boulevard alerted SMPD to the stolen car just before 3 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was a black Mercedes Benz that had been reported stolen in Mountain View on Tuesday.

Officers attempted to stop the car, but Connelly sped away, SMPD said, driving “recklessly” through San Mateo before turning onto Highway 101 north.

The California Highway Patrol joined the pursuit as officers tracked the car through San Francisco and to the Bay Bridge. Connelly eventually crashed in the toll booth area, police said.

He got out and tried to flee, but was caught by officers and arrested. He was taken to a hospital and later to the San Mateo County Jail.

“Take the time to close and lock all windows and doors when you park your car, never leave your keys in the car, park in well-lit areas, and never leave valuables in your vehicle,” SMPD said.
