Resident of a nursing home attacked and strangled with a coat hanger: MPs

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Missouri – A former resident of a nursing home in Festus, Missouri, remains hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation after attempting to strangle a roommate last December.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office probable cause statement, the crime occurred on December 27 at the Superior Manor Nursing Home on State Road TT.

Investigators said Marla D. Williams (age not given) attempted to strangle another resident by wrapping a wire coat hanger around his face and neck. A nursing home employee witnessed the attack.

Williams reportedly admitted to the attack but denied it a few minutes later. Investigators said she appeared to be in an altered state.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office charged Williams with second-degree assault. An arrest warrant was issued and bail was set at $10,000.
