Man killed in shooting through back door

BIRMINGHAM — A murder investigation is underway in Birmingham after police found an unconscious man with gunshot wounds in his kitchen early Wednesday morning. He is the 16th homicide victim in the Magic City in the past 17 days, one of the most violent months in recent history.

According to BPD, officers were notified by dispatch at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday of a Shotspotter report of approximately 10 shots fired. When officers arrived at the scene and searched the area, they were unable to find any injuries or anything suspicious.

At around 1:51 a.m., emergency responders received a call that a person had been shot in the same area, in the 800 block of Jasper Road.

When officers arrived on scene, they entered the home and found an adult male in the kitchen who was unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds.

Birmingham Fire Department pronounced the man dead at the scene. Officials said one person was taken away for questioning.
