Windy trade winds, high surf on Sunday

A strong high pressure system will keep the trade winds over the islands for several more days. These winds will bring occasional passing showers to the windward and mauka areas, but they should be light.

This weather pattern will continue through the first half of next week. By midweek there will be a first warning of weakening trade winds and the possibility of increasing showers.

There is also an initial warning of rising surf on south-facing coasts, where a high swell warning is in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Waves could reach 12 feet. West coasts will also get some of that swell energy. North coasts will be mostly flat, while strong trade winds on east coasts will continue to create high and choppy waves.

For seafarers, the small craft warning for coastal and channel waters has been extended until 6 p.m. on Monday.
