Quetta suspends internet and mobile services on 9 and 10 Muharram

The provincial government of Balochistan has announced that internet and mobile services in Quetta will be suspended on 9th and 10th Muharram from 6am to midnight.

This is part of the enhanced security measures being taken in the region to mark the Muharram celebrations.

In addition, the provincial government has introduced Section 144 in seven districts, prohibiting public gatherings and pillion riding during this period.

According to Interior Minister Meer Zia ullah Langau, 8,000 security personnel will be deployed in Quetta on Ashura Day (10 Muharram) and five platoons of the Pakistan Army’s Quick Response Force will remain on standby.

Mobile phone services will also be suspended in the districts of Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad and Usta Muhammad on 9 and 10 Muharram.

As a security measure for the duration of Muharram, the Federal Government of Pakistan has also approved the deployment of Pakistan Army and Civilian Forces across the country.

The details of the troop deployment will be clarified with the relevant authorities.

These security measures are being implemented to ensure law and order during the Muharram celebrations, which include large public processions and gatherings across the country.
