Sheriff: Fatal shooting an “isolated incident”

One person is dead after a shooting early Thursday morning on Mountain Valley Drive outside Morgantown. Detectives from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) are investigating.

According to a press release authorized by Sheriff Perry Palmer, officers were called to the Mountain Valley apartment complex at approximately 1:42 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was taken by ambulance to JW Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators assume that the alleged murder was an “isolated incident between two acquaintances,” the press release states.

The victim’s identity has not been publicly released and no arrests have been made Thursday.

Questions about whether investigators had identified a suspect or suspects in the shooting were not answered. The Dominion Post asked for information on possible suspects or vehicle descriptions, but MCSD officials said no further information would be released Thursday.

Mountain Valley Drive residents who live near the 9000 block building or anyone with information or video related to the shooting are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 304-291-7260.
