Two French rugby internationals were arrested in Argentina on suspicion of sexual assault.

Oscar Jegou, 21, and Hugo Auradou, 20, were arrested in Buenos Aires on Monday and are expected to be taken to Mendoza, where the crime was allegedly committed against a woman, according to local reports.

France is on a tour of South America.

The French team remained in Mendoza on Saturday evening after their 28-13 friendly win over Argentina, in which both players made their international debut.

“If the facts turn out to be true, they are incredibly serious,” Florian Grill, president of the French Rugby Federation, told reporters.

“We reserve the outcome of the investigation.”

Martin Ahumada, a spokesman for the Mendoza prosecutor’s office, told AFP that a commission was on its way to Buenos Aires to carry out “investigative measures.” “If the results are consistent with the victim’s statement, charges will be filed.”

Jegou, who plays at back for French club La Rochelle, and Auradou, who plays at safety for his club Pau, were both part of the French U20 team that won the 2023 World Cup.

BBC Sport has asked the French Rugby Federation for a comment.

Jaminet, who plays for Toulon, posted the video on his Instagram account after his appearance in the win against Argentina.

Although Jaminet deleted the video, it was widely shared on social media and the 25-year-old was sent home from the tour.

Jaminet said he was “deeply sorry and ashamed of my comments.”

France will play Uruguay in Montevideo on Wednesday before returning to Buenos Aires for a second friendly against Argentina.
