Lagos APC denies suspension of member

The Lagos State-based branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly denied the suspension of any member in any part of the state.

The APC’s spokesman in the state, Mr. Seye Oladejo, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos on Sunday.

“Our attention has been drawn to the false report making the rounds that the State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has allegedly suspended thousands of party members from Alimosho Local Government.

“We want to make it clear that there is no truth in these allegations,” he said.

According to him, Ojelabi remains committed to the unity of the party and measures that enable peaceful coexistence of all members.

“As a political party whose members pursue different agendas, the APC naturally has disputes and suspicions, but these can always be resolved within the framework of the constitutional provisions.

“The chairman, as an experienced personality in party politics and leadership, is always ready to give in and accommodate all opinions without trampling on the rights of others,” he said.

Oladejo said, however, that the chairman was firmly convinced that the interests of the factions should not take precedence over those of the party.

He said it was in the party’s interest to maintain cohesion among its members and to ensure that the party leadership kept the elected and appointed government officials under control in the delivery of their services.

Oladejo said: “There is no provision in the party’s constitution that would enable the chairman to unilaterally suspend a member.

“The public is hereby urged to ignore statements designed to create an imaginary conflict and to spread deliberate falsehoods that are essentially self-serving.”

It may be recalled that some party members in Alimosho recently attempted to abuse and beat up the party chairman during a protest in front of the party secretariat before security forces intervened.

The protesters were reportedly angry that members of the faction they belonged to were not recognized at a meeting called by Ojelabi to reconcile the disunited groups in the local government area.
