The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting involving a Mandeville police officer. According to STPSO, the incident began when a Mandeville Police officer was conducting a welfare check at a home in the 700 block of Heavens Drive. When the officer arrived on the scene, they heard a woman screaming inside the home. They say the woman came outside and alerted police that a man was inside the home and was threatening to kill her. Police say a man came out of the home with a gun and shot the woman multiple times. The officer took cover and waited for backup while telling the man to drop the gun. The officer attempted to use a taser to stun the man, who had his gun pointed at the officer. Meanwhile, another Mandeville officer arrived on the scene and fired his weapon at the man. The man and woman were taken to a local hospital and later succumbed to their injuries. According to the Mandeville Police Department, no officers were injured. This is an ongoing investigation.
