Mets activate closer Edwin Diaz after suspension

The New York Mets recalled closer Edwin Diaz on Saturday after he was suspended for 10 games for violating MLB’s foreign substance policy.

The Mets, who continue their weekend series at the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, also called up right-hander Eric Orze and sent right-hander Ty Adcock to Triple-A Syracuse.

Before the suspension, Diaz, 30, recorded two saves and a win after coming off the injured list with a shoulder injury on June 13. He is 2-1 with a 4.70 ERA and seven saves in 11 opportunities this year.

Orze, 26, the Mets’ fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft, has yet to make his major league debut. He went undefeated this season at Syracuse, posting a 3-0 record with a 3.76 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings in 26 games.

Adcock, 27, has a 14.54 ERA in three relief appearances for the Mets in 2024.
