Man dies in car accident in Tempe

TEMPE, Arizona – An East Valley man was injured in a car crash in Tempe on Thursday, Tempe police said Friday.

According to the Tempe Fire Department, the accident occurred Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Baseline Road and Country Club Way and involved five to six vehicles.

The department said two people had to be extricated from one of the cars. A total of six people were treated for injuries. Three of them were taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. The other three people were treated for serious injuries that were not life-threatening.

One of the people hospitalized, 23-year-old Kaleb Ballinger, later died.

Impairment is suspected to be the cause of this accident, but no one has been arrested yet.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. No further details have been released.
