Daniel Ricciardo is being investigated by the FIA over a strange incident in the pit lane at the British GP

Daniel Ricciardo received a warning after violating the pit lane during the final hour of practice for the British GP.

Ricciardo was seen lurching in his VCARB 01 in the pit lane overtaking lane, passing the mechanics in the pit boxes to his right. The torrential rain before the third free practice session and the cool weather conditions meant that grip was very low.

Daniel Ricciardo receives reprimand from British GP commissioners

Ricciardo’s behaviour caught the attention of race control, which soon announced a post-session investigation into a possible breach of Article 33.4 of the Sporting Regulations, which states: “At no time shall a car be driven unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner that could be considered potentially dangerous to other drivers or other persons.”

And the race directors reprimanded the Australian accordingly. He admitted that his behavior “did not present a good image” and promised that it would not happen again.

“Race control has interviewed the driver of Car 3 (Daniel Ricciardo) and a team representative and reviewed video footage, team radio and video evidence from inside the car,” their report began.

“The team instructed the driver to keep the tyre temperature high on the way to the pits and the driver decided to skid in the fast lane.

“A number of other team personnel were located in other team boxes immediately adjacent to the overtaking lane and there was a risk that Car 3’s weaving would have resulted in contact with these personnel, particularly given the wet conditions.

“The driver of car 3 admitted that his behaviour ‘did not reflect well’ and assured the stewards that they would never see him repeat this behaviour again.”

Ricciardo finished the rain-affected FP3 session in P18.
