Former Monroe City Superintendent Brent Vidrine Arrested After Lengthy School Board Investigation

MONROE, Louisiana (KNOE) – Former Monroe City Superintendent Brent Vidrine has been arrested following a lengthy investigation related to purchases made during his time on the school board.

The investigation began when MCSB filed a complaint about funds transferred to Vidrine. Vidrine later filed a counterclaim against MCSB for what it said was a breach of its contractual agreement in October 2023.

The countersuit against the MCSB alleged that Vidrine asked the school board for funds for the Teacher’s Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL), which the MCSB transferred in 2021 and 2022. The countersuit also alleged that the funds were paid directly to Vidrine and not to the TRSL.

An investigation conducted by Workplace Investigations of the South found “significant deficiencies at all levels of authority in the City of Monroe School System.” The investigation was then forwarded to the Auditor of the Louisiana Legislature, who, upon completion, forwarded it to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The affidavit states that Vidrine was arrested on one count of theft, one count of abuse of office and two counts of filing or maintaining false public records, totaling four charges.

Vidrine was released on $22,500 bail.

This is an ongoing investigation.
