Houston Independent School District Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Sexually Assaulting 14-Year-Old Girl

A report of a school teacher engaging in sexual activity with a child has been made to Houston ISD.

As previously reported by the Dallas Express, numerous cases of school employees allegedly having sexual contact with minors have made headlines in recent years, so much so that the activist group Citizens Defending Freedom conducted an investigation into how the Texas Education Agency monitored and took appropriate action.

Such incidents have even reportedly occurred in Dallas ISD.

The latest report from Texas Scorecard details how a 63-year-old middle school teacher was accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Houston ISD student after having inappropriate video calls with the minor.

Here are some elements reported by the media:

Dale Lamar Vanwright was arrested Friday and charged with sexual performance on a child, indecency with a child by touching and inappropriate relationship between an educator and a student.

All three counts are second-degree felonies punishable by two to 20 years in prison.

When the alleged crimes occurred, Vanwright was teaching design at Tanglewood Middle School in the Houston Independent School District.

A district official said Texas Dashboard As of Monday, Vanwright “is no longer employed by HISD as of June 7, 2024” and “has not had contact with students at any HISD institution since that date.”

The alleged victim, who was dating a family member of Vanwright, told police that the married teacher occasionally drove her home after school.
