Crookston Care and Share and homeless shelter.

CROOKSTON, ND (KFGO) – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating a fatal shooting involving a police officer in Crookston, Minnesota.

Police Chief Darin Selzler says officers were dispatched to a fight reported late Sunday night at the Care and Share homeless shelter at 220 East 3rd Street. Officers found a man inside the shelter who was resisting and refusing to comply with police commands.

Before one of the officers fired his gun and hit the man, less lethal means were used. Despite life-saving measures by the officers and emergency services, the man died at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim or the officer involved in the fatal shooting.

This is the third fatal shooting involving a police officer in Polk County since January.
