Elderly couple found dead after apparent murder-suicide in Surprise

SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamily) – Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after an elderly couple were found dead in a Surprise home last week.

On Thursday, June 20, a neighbor found the couple dead in their home near Sunrise Boulevard and Goldwater Ridge Drive and called 911.

Police reacted unexpectedly and began investigating what led to their deaths. On Monday, the couple were identified as Shirley Germenis, 79, and Dionysios Germenis, 82.

According to Surprise police, Shirley was previously confined to a wheelchair and required round-the-clock medical care.

Investigators believe Dionysios shot her before turning the gun on himself.
