Davidson County men have been arrested after a man was found dead in the church parking lot, deputies say

NORTH CAROLINA FACEBOOK PAGE. A BUSY STREET IN WINSTON SALEM IS REOPEN THIS EVENING AFTER AN ACCIDENT. According to police, it involved a car and a power pole. Shortly after 8:00 this evening, calls were received by police at Peters Creek near Brewer Road. Police told us the injuries were minor. We don’t yet know what caused this driver to crash. TONIGHT WE ALSO HEAR FROM A STUDENT AT PARKLAND HIGH SCHOOL WHO HEARS ABOUT SOME INCIDENTS OF VIOLENCE AT SCHOOL. Recently, a weapon exploded in a student’s backpack, resulting in a student being injured by shrapnel. KARA PETERS TALKS TO A STUDENT ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND WHAT THE STUDENT HOPES TO CHANGE AT HER SCHOOL. Let’s continue with the student I spoke to. She didn’t want to show her face on camera because she wants to feel safe, but says she’s only been a student at Parkland High School for a year and a half. BUT AFTER RECENT EVENTS, SHE TELLS ME THAT SHE IS READY TO GO. What happens in Parkland is not certain, nor do I think it should be. It should be a school that people go to because our safety is at risk. THIS IS HOW AN 18-YEAR-OLD STUDENT DESCRIBES HER EXPERIENCE AT PARKLAND HIGH SCHOOL IN WINSTON-SALEM, FORSYTH COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT TRICIA MCMANUS SAYS A STUDENT BROUGHT A GUN TO SCHOOL TUESDAY. The gun exploded in the student’s backpack in the cafeteria and hit the floor. Shrapnel hit a student in the leg. School leaders and law enforcement addressed the incident Wednesday, saying they didn’t know what happened until the end of the school day and that there was a gun in the building. IN A NORMAL SITUATION THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED AND EVERYONE THOUGH, “OH MY GOD, IT WOULD BE AN IMMEDIATE, PROBABLY SECURE PROTOCOL.” EVERYONE WOULD LIKE TO BE SAFE AS SOMETHING HAPPENED. BUT NOTHING. So to find out that this happened at lunch, but not to find out what actually happened until around 7 p.m., I find it very unusual. According to Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough, his office has responded to Parkland High School 69 times this school year. The student we spoke to says she hopes things change soon. It’s kind of creepy. It’s also like this school should be safe, but it’s not. If we had to go through this every day and there were high schools that didn’t even have to go through this, and then I understand that not every school is perfect, but there should be precautions. School leaders say metal detectors are used randomly. SUPERINTENDENT MCMANUS SAYS METAL DETECTORS WERE ALSO USED AT PARKLAND HIGH SCHOOL WEDNESDAY MORNING. ALL I TELL EVERYONE IS ALL THAT. The body’s obligation to ensure our schools are safe. It’s a matter of public safety, Superintendent MCMANUS said she checked on the victim and said she was fine and would be back at school soon. She continued that these recent events are isolated and should not detract from the positive events taking place at the Winston-Salem school. I’M KARA PETERSON FOR WXII 12 NEWS. KARA, THANK YOU.
