Suspension of alcohol driving controls on weekends and public holidays

President of the Hotel Owners Association, C. Narayanagowda, calls on the police to act in the interest of tourism

Mysore/Mysuru: The President of the Mysuru Hotel Owners Association, C. Narayanagowda, called for the City Police to suspend drink-driving controls on motorways and main roads on weekends and public holidays.

Narayanagowda said that the traffic police conduct drunk driving checks on highways and main roads on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays when many tourists from neighbouring districts and states come to the city.

During police checks, long queues of cars can be seen on the main roads, hindering traffic flow and causing problems for tourists, which in turn has a negative impact on the tourism industry.

Yesterday at around 9:30 pm, the traffic police conducted a drunk driving check near BM Hospital on Hunsur Road, following which hundreds of vehicles were seen waiting in a long queue with their engines running. Due to the increase in petrol prices, the vehicles had to wait for more than 30 minutes to pass the checkpoint, resulting in wastage of fuel which is a loss for the police.

Narayanagowda has asked the traffic police not to conduct checks on highways and main roads, but on other roads where there will be no inconvenience to tourists.

He appealed to the district minister and the city police chief to take measures to avoid inconvenience to tourists.
