Family of Center Point man killed at Charter East Apartment Complex seeking justice

It’s been a week since a Center Point man was killed. Gemar Hubbard’s family is asking the public to help officials find the person responsible. Hubbard’s niece says they are doing well, but they have their ups and downs. Last Sunday they made the difficult decision to take him off life support. His family says he was hit hard by an object and did not survive his injuries. The attack occurred at an apartment complex in Charter East, where his family said he also lived. On April 27, before 10 p.m. that night, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a report of a person being killed. When they got there, they found Hubbard unconscious and wandering around for the interview with no witnesses. Denise Moss, Hubbard’s niece, says her uncle was neither a troublemaker nor a violent criminal. She says he was known and liked by many, so she’s kind of surprised no one came forward with information. “But you know, I have to be honest with you about the way things are going in Birmingham, I can do that too.” Say, I’m not surprised. That’s why I’m grateful that you’re giving us the opportunity to get in touch. If you see anything, please report “We want to give the family some peace,” Moss said. Moss says a celebration of life is planned for her uncle later this month. She told me that her family had informed investigators of a few names. “We have some names. Investigators were made aware of this. We let them work on it. We have provided them with what we have and we are confident that they will do their part. “I’m confident about our family.” “I’m giving them the information that there will be a break in this case,” Moss said. The sheriff’s office says they are still investigating and encourage people to call CrimeStoppers.
