Man arrested in Maharashtra for marrying and raping his underage niece

In Thane, Maharashtra, police have registered a complaint against a 23-year-old man from Jalna district of Maharashtra for marrying his niece, a police official said today, Saturday, June 22.

This happened two years ago, according to a PTI Report.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the victim was repeatedly raped by her husband, after which she became pregnant, the official said.

Charges have also been brought against the victim’s brother and father, the police officer said.

“Based on a complaint from the girl, who is 17 years old and now pregnant, an FIR was filed against the trio on Thursday under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act,” the Wagle Estate police station officer told PTI.

Now, the case has been transferred to Mantha police station in Jalna district as the crime took place within its jurisdiction, he said.

The accused are the girl’s 23-year-old husband, who is also the girl’s maternal uncle, his brother and the girl’s 43-year-old father.

The marriage was arranged on July 13, 2022, when the survivor was 15 years and five months old. Her father was the one who got her married to her maternal uncle. This marriage took place in Jalna, as per the police complaint, a police official said.
