1 person killed in accident northwest of Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a crash that left one person dead early Friday morning.

Officers said they received a report of an accident at the intersection of 56th Street and Lafayette Road around 2:30 a.m.


According to IMPD, a Jeep was traveling east on 56th Street when a Mercedes-Benz that had been stopped at a red light entered the intersection and was struck from the side by the Jeep.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.

The driver of the Jeep suffered only minor injuries and refused to go to the hospital.

Police do not believe alcohol played a role in the accident; the accident remains under investigation.
