Grimes County man sentenced for sexually abusing a child in 2023

As part of his prison sentence, Margarito Anguiano must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas – A 44-year-old man will spend the next decade and a half in prison and must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

According to the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, on September 25, 2023, a 14-year-old girl informed a Navasota Police Academy liaison officer that Margarito Anguiano had sexually abused her.

A Navasota Police Department investigator investigated the claim and found that Anguiano had penetrated her with his fingers and forced her to perform oral sex on him. Anguiano was questioned about this claim by a Texas State Police agent at the Navasota Police Department on January 22, 2024, and confessed to the first claim but denied the second.

Anguiano pleaded guilty and was sentenced on June 12 to 15 years in prison for second-degree sexual assault of a child as part of a plea agreement with Grimes County Assistant District Attorney Meagan Callaham. He also agreed to register as a sex offender for life. He faced a prison sentence of between 2 and 20 years.

“Investigator Mullins and Agent Zotz did a great job in this investigation,” Assistant District Attorney Callaham said in a press release. “Their work built a strong case that led the defendant to plead guilty and accept his punishment for the abuse of a young girl.”
