Actor charged with sex offences against Edmonton teenagers that occurred 15 years ago

A well-known actor and martial arts director has been accused of sexually abusing an Edmonton teenager 15 years ago. Police fear there may be more victims.

In August, Edmonton police began investigating a report of “multiple previous sexual assaults,” according to a news release sent Tuesday.

According to the press release, a man – who would have been in his mid-30s at the time – began a relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

Over a period of 18 months, from March 2006 to September 2007, the girl was sexually abused several times, the press release said.

Patrick Charles Howarth, 49, was charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation

Howarth worked as an actor and battle captain at the Citadel Theatre from March to June 2006. He also held a teaching position in the theatre department at the University of Alberta from January to March 2007, police said.

“Due to Howarth’s previous employment and allegations of sexual assault of a 16-year-old, investigators believe there may be additional complainants,” the Edmonton Police Department said in a press release.

Any other complainants or persons with information are asked to contact Edmonton Police.
