Sheriff’s report: Man attacked and thrown to ground at Kimball Junction Transit Center

The Summit County Sheriff’s report.

On Thursday afternoon, a man was attacked at the Kimball Junction Transit Center.

The man had called the Summit County Sheriff’s Office to report someone was acting aggressively and throwing objects. The suspect then turned on the caller.

A witness said the suspect, later identified as a 49-year-old man, picked up the male caller and threw him to the ground. The caller stated he was lying on the bus stop when the suspect began to verbally and physically attack him.



Officers found two abrions on the man’s right elbow and a red spot under his right eye, the sheriff’s office said.

The 49-year-old suspect was arrested for assault and taken to the Summit County Jail.



The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, June 10, and Sunday, June 17, including reports of driving under the influence, outstanding warrants, and drugs.

Sunday, 16 June

A vehicle was stopped on Interstate 80 for failing to stay in a lane. The driver crossed the center lane twice. Police noticed the strong odor of alcohol coming from the car. The man agreed to take a standardized breathalyzer test, but he failed. A breath test showed the man had more than four times the legal alcohol content at the scene. He was arrested and charged with drunk driving, driving without a license, and driving without a lane.

Friday, June 14

A speeding vehicle was stopped on SR 40 near Coalville. The man was showing signs of impairment and an open bottle of alcohol was discovered in the passenger footwell. The man told officers he would take a breathalyzer test, but “not any of the walking tests.” A breathalyzer test was positive and the man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. THC wax and drug paraphernalia were also discovered. The man had two warrants out of Ogden for driving without insurance.

Thursday, June 13

Officers observed a vehicle committing several traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop. The 36-year-old woman was glassy-eyed and shaking. Officers searched her car and found 446 fentanyl pills, 6.8 grams of methamphetamine, and a white foil with two burnt pills and a straw. The amount of pills was considered a distributable amount. The woman was charged with possession with intent to resell, a second-degree felony, as well as possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

A motorcycle was observed going off the road near the Park City Tech Center. The man was found to be under the influence of alcohol and not licensed to drive. The man was taken to a local medical facility for medical evaluation. He was issued a citation and hospitalized.

Drugs were reported in Coalville. The suspect was encountered in the area and a traffic stop was initiated. Officers discovered that his license was suspended and that he had a warrant for his arrest. During the arrest, drugs and paraphernalia were also found on the man and in his vehicle. The man was transported to the Summit County Jail without incident.

An intoxicated man allegedly took a drink without paying for it at the Newpark Hotel. Officers found the intoxicated man. The hotel declined to press shoplifting charges. He was arrested for intoxication and taken to jail. The man turned out to be the same person a restaurant had complained about earlier in the day, however, officers were unable to locate him at that time.

Officers responded to a fraud report near SR 224. A person attempted to check into a hotel room using another person’s information. Officers intercepted the suspect in the parking lot. A records check revealed that he had multiple warrants for his arrest. The man was taken into custody without incident.

Wednesday, June 12

A vehicle was stopped for failing to signal when making a left turn and for having the registration indicator incorrectly displayed. The driver had a nationwide warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle found two open bottles of liquor. The driver was taken to Summit County Jail for a search and was booked for the open containers.

A suspicious vehicle was reported near the Tollgate parking lot. The two occupants were in the car and appeared to be intoxicated. The man was extremely intoxicated and refused to cooperate with law enforcement. He was arrested on two charges. His girlfriend was released. The vehicle was abandoned at the location.

Officers stopped a vehicle without insurance near the Tech Center. The driver also said he did not have a driver’s license. A records check revealed that the man’s license was suspended and he needed an ignition interlock device to operate a motor vehicle, which he did not have. The man was arrested and taken to the Summit County Jail.

Officers conducted a records check on a truck on I-80. The registered owner had two warrants for his arrest. The passenger also had multiple warrants for his arrest. Officers arrested the man and found drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.

Tuesday, June 11

A man was arrested for trespassing at a Canyons Village apartment complex. Management said there is an ongoing problem with a squatter. Staff entered an apartment that was supposed to be vacant but found a man sleeping in the room. The man was upset when he spoke to officers but said he had permission from a friend to stay in the apartment. Staff confirmed the apartment was supposed to be vacated and that the person had moved out of the room. It is unclear how the man was able to get into the room.
