Thieves ransacked a home in Boonton Township and stole valuable heirlooms

Boonton Township police are looking for five people suspected of being involved in a home burglary in Mountain Run on Friday.

The perpetrators stole several items and left behind a devastated house.

Surveillance footage shows three masked suspects entering the house through an unlocked window shortly after 12:30 p.m.

“They took the jewelry that my mother had – she died a while ago,” said Carol Torres, the victim’s daughter. “Of course they took everything he (my father) wanted to give us. And then his large collection of antique knives. For some reason they decided to take those. It seemed like they were looking for cash, because they just went through everything. They just emptied all the drawers.”

Torres is grateful that her father was shopping when the men entered his house.

“He’s a pretty strong guy, so he’s doing better than most after something like this, but of course he’s still pretty shaken up,” Torres said. “His house is very private, like everyone else’s, and knowing that these strangers were searching his house was pretty devastating for him.”

Surveillance photos show a white SUV unknown in the area. Police are looking for three suspects, all identified as Hispanic males. Additionally, two suspicious individuals were seen outside.

Torres says it’s a far cry from the neighborhood she grew up in.

“He said there were a few robberies over Christmas as well,” Torres said. “It’s just not something you expect in this town. I grew up there when I was much younger. You would leave your doors unlocked and be perfectly fine and you would never think something like this could happen, but unfortunately it did.”

Boonton Township police are asking anyone with information about the break-in to call them at 973-402-4022.
